ABOUT SARAH

How did I become interested in birth?

I have always been interested in it, but for sure my first pregnancy and having the support of midwives sparked my interest.

I think interest in helping people is just a part of me, both of my grandmother's were nurses, one an L & D nurse, and the other had midwifery training while doing her nursing in Scotland, I think they passed it onto me! I want to be able to provide support to women like they used to have.  Not even 100 years ago women were surrounded by other women during the births of their children.  Something has gotten lost since then, and most women do so much better with that support and encouragement.  I want to bring that back, knowing that another woman is there entirely for you, and your family can change the way you see your birth.

I am a Certified DONA International Doula, and although I am new to this work I feel like I have finally come home.  I have always felt that women’s bodies were made to birth, and that if properly supported the majority of women can do this.  There is so much focus on the medical side of pregnancy and birth, but what about the spiritual and emotional sides?  I feel that birth needs to be brought back into the woman’s court.  Sometimes we cannot control exactly how things will go, but women still need to feel like this is their birth. I am open to supporting women during vaginal birth, VBAC/HBAC, c-section birth, and would even like to help those during times of loss.  I am very passionate about breastfeeding, and hope to eventually become more involved to be able to help as many women as possible to breastfeed successfully. I fully support your plans and dreams for a healthy and happy birth experience. My goal as your Doula is to help you make this the best experience that it can be, because I know you will have these memories for a lifetime.

I look forward to helping other women through this amazing, changing time in their lives, and I cannot wait to help you welcome your little one.

**At this time I am only able to provide support to families in the Barrie, ON area, if you are outside of the area I may be able to direct you to someone closer to you**
