WHAT IS A DOULA?

In Greek, the word Doula means "Woman serving another woman".

Essentially, the Birth Doula is a Labour Support Person.  The Doula will usually join you when you feel the need to have extra help, and support.

A Doula is there to support you, emotionally and physically.  She will stay with you during and for a time after your labour.

We cannot always control how labour will go, but we can try to make sure that you feel positive about your choices.

A woman will remember this birth for the rest of her life, and it is important how she feels about it.  As a Doula, I want you to have the best birth experience that you can.

A Doula knows the process, and stages of birth.  She is knowlegable on what each stage can bring, and how to aid the woman during that progression.

A Doula is not a medical caregiver, we do not do medical related tasks.  We advocate for you, but do not speak for you.  We help you understand the options and choices when they are presented to you.
